FAQ

Are you qualified?

Yes. I hold a Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics – Academy of Makeup (2018).

What makeup brands do you use?

Good quality makeup does not necessarily mean expensive and high end. However I use mainly high end brands, and only a few drugstore products. Such brands include Inglot, Becca, Iconic London, MAC, Marc Jacobs, Fenty Beauty, Anastasia Beverley Hills, Huda Beauty, Kat Von D, Tarte, Hourglass, Benefit, Maybelline, Colourpop, etc.

How long does each appointment take?

To perfect a look, I take around 1hour-1hour10mins to complete. For my brides, I allow up to 1.5hours.

Are lashes included for each makeup application?

My prices are all inclusive of lashes. I have both strip lashes and individual lashes in my kit. I also offer luxury faux mink lashes in both natural and glam styles (these look more like real hair and therefore are more fluffy) for an extra $10. Individual lashes are also an extra $10.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

On the day of your appointment, it would be greatly appreciated to come with a clean face without makeup, with only a layer of moisturiser on. This ensures that no time is wasted removing the makeup during your appointment, and that your skin does not lose moisture or hydration. A good makeup base comes from a clean base, and good skincare.

Also please come prepared with some inspiration photos (whether that be from my own work or other makeup artists), as this gives me a good idea of the type of makeup you are after. My favourite sources of inspiration are Pinterest, Instagram makeup accounts, and Instagram hashtags (try #makeup, #naturalmakeup, #glam, etc).

Before your appointment, please feel free to ask me any questions about skincare and how to prepare your skin before the day of your event. Let me know your skin concerns and I would love to offer you advice!

What should I expect during the appointment?

I will ask about the inspiration photos and will swatch a few products along the way to ensure you know the main products I am using and that you are happy with our choices. I tailor every single application to what YOU want, whether that’s natural, soft glam, or full glam. Please do keep in mind that makeup always looks its best at the end, where everything ties in together – trust the process. At the end, I will always ask if there is anything you want me to adjust or add to ensure you are 100% happy.

How long will my makeup last?

A lot of my clients have reported back that their makeup had lasted 15-17hours. If any of my clients have worn it for longer, please let me know so I can update this! Since the makeup does last, don’t be afraid of booking in an earlier timeslot than your preferred time. I also offer touch up kits for extra assurance.

How do I book an appointment?

To inquire or make a booking, please email me or direct message on Instagram. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response.

For all SPECIAL OCCASION MAKEUP, a non-refundable deposit of $20 is required to secure bookings.

The remaining of your total is paid on the day.

For BRIDAL BOOKINGS, a non-refundable 50% deposit is required to secure bookings.

The remaining is paid on the wedding date.

How do I cancel an appointment?

For any cancellations, please contact me via your method of booking. Please also note that the deposit is non-refundable.

Do you travel to clients?

I can travel but it depends on my availability. A travel fee also applies, calculated at 50c per km covering to and from my studio, plus a $5 packing fee. If free parking is unavailable, parking fees will also be added to the final total.

Do you recommend doing a trial?

For bridals, I would absolutely recommend booking in a trial. This ensures that both the bride/bridal party and myself know what to expect on the day. It also helps me understand your skin and facial features better, and this ensures that the makeup looks better the second time round. For all of my trials, I also offer a skin consultation and recommendations to ensure the skin can look its best on the day, therefore allowing a flawless base for the makeup to sit on top of.

What’s the difference between Bridal and Special Occasion makeup?

I allow up to 1.5 hours for my Bridals, and up to 1hour 10minutes for Special Occasion. For bridal, I only use individual lashes which allows me to customise them from natural to dramatic. Individual lashes also take longer to apply, hence the difference in time allocation. I also add extra steps and little details to ensure my brides feel extra pampered and looked after on the day. My brides also receive a complimentary touch up kit to ensure their makeup is flawless all day and night, and this is also available to everyone else at an additional cost ($20). I always put in full effort and care into my Special Occasion clients as I do with every single client, I simply allocate more time for bridal to avoid overtime, and add extras to make things more convenient and less stressful for the bride on the day.

Are you still taking bookings through the COVID-19 outbreak?

Please note that Carissa Tan Makeup Artistry is not currently undertaking makeup applications, but is still taking booking deposits to secure any future events. Please read the COVID-19 Policy under the "PRICING" tab. Due to the uncertainty of the events industry as a result of COVID-19, an amended policy has been created to ensure peace of mind for clients who wish to submit their deposit to secure their future booking.

My event has been cancelled due to COVID-19, can I get a refund or move my booking to another date?

Deposits are non-refundable, however any deposit submitted from 1/1/2020 until 1/6/2020 (date subject to change) are now transferable; hence are eligible to move their booking to another date, using their initial deposit to secure that new date. As the COVID-19 situation is constantly changing, the date mentioned above is subject to be extended with how the situation progresses. If there are any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or direct message on Instagram. Hope you are all well and staying safe.
